Litter
The reduction of litter is important to Kilkenny County Council. We are fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful counties in Ireland and we should take pride in keeping it that way. A number of initiatives are ran annually to minimise litter and the Counicl urges everyone to play their part in keeping Kilkenny litter free.
Report Litter Black Spots and Illegal Dumping
Kilkenny County Council has a free phone confidential litter line (1800 200 156). Unfortunately we can not investigate incidences of illegal dumping reported via social media as often there is not enough detail on the location. The public are encouraged to ring the litter line to ensure all details of the incident is recorded for enforcement purposes. The concerned citizen reporting the incidence can remain anonymous.
Kilkenny County Council participates in the National Litter Monitoring Programme aimed at the establishment of a database of all litter-polluted spots. We also run awareness programmes with primary and post-primary schools as part of our Schools Environmental Education Programme.
The Environment Section assists community and residents groups organising clean-ups during National Spring Clean every year between March and May. We offer assistance to Tidy Towns groups all year round by providing bags and gloves. Information about these programmes are available from the Environment Section, Kilkenny County Council, contact us at 056-7794470 or environment@kilkennycoco.ie
