Road Traffic Draft Special Speed Limit Bye-Laws

The Road Traffic Act, 2004 provides for the application of a number of speed limits in respect of various road types. Normally these speed limits apply to designated road types. However there are instances in which it is necessary to intervene and change speed limits.

This intervention role is vested in the Elected Members of Kilkenny County Council in respect of roads in it’s functional area through the making of Special Speed Limit Bye-Laws.

At a meeting of Kilkenny County Council dated 19th December, 2011, Kilkenny County Council approved the Draft County Kilkenny Special Speed Limit Bye-Laws 2012 under the Road Traffic Acts 1961 – 2007 with a view to exercising that power of intervention.

A copy of the Draft County Kilkenny Special Speed Limit Bye-Laws 2012 can be inspected at the Customer Services Desk, County Hall, John Street, Kilkenny, on the Council Website www.kilkennycoco.ie or any of the Council’s Area Offices in Callan, Castlecomer, Thomastown and Newrath during normal office hours.
The Draft Bye-Laws will be available for public inspection from Friday 23rd December, 2011 to Friday 3rd February, 2012.

Any person may submit in writing observations, comments or objections with regard to the draft bye-laws addressed to Simon Walton, Senior Engineer, Roads and Transportation, County Hall, John Street, Kilkenny to be received not later than 4pm on Friday 3rd February, 2012.

John Mulholland,
