The Heritage Office of Kilkenny County Council commissioned the Geological Survey of Ireland to undertake an audit of Kilkenny's geology. The audit was conducted in two phases (2007 & 2012) and identified 25 sites of geological and geomorphological interest in the county. The sites identified in the first phase of the survey have been adopted as County Geological Sites. The sites in the second phase are proposed as County Geological Sites in the Kilkenny Draft City and County Development Plans 2014-2020.
